FYI for Seborrheic Dermatitis sufferers (Head & Shoulders)
I have suffered from this on my face for a few years now, and my doctor has been completely useless in helping the condition. They simply tell me to keep using 1BP steroid cream, which i then have to buy whilst lying to the shopkeeper when they ask if i will use it on my face (these creams always say "do not use on the face")
So, I was then using the cream sparingly, so as not to suffer the effects of "thinning of my skin".
The only non steroid product that ever works on my skin was Natural sunlight. Not much of that available in the UK during winter(!) so the last few months would normally have seen heavy use of the steroid cream.
In late 2008 I read on a forum that somebody had had some success with using Head and shoulders shampoo as a treatment. Since i use this shampoo every day, I developed a new daily routine, that seems to be working well.
When i shower, i put some un-diluted Head and Shoulders (specifically : "Soothing care for dry hair and scalp for frequent use") lightly on my effected skin, and let it sit there whilst i have the rest of my shower. At the end i then turn the temp right down to a cold stream, and wash it off my face.
After the shower i dab the skin dry lightly. After about 10 mins, I then moisturize it with Niva Rich Care Body Moisturizer for "dry skin" (this has Almond Oil and Vit E in it).
Note: Sometimes i skip the moisturizer step, to let my skin "breathe" a bit
I firmly believe that the combination of the H&S, leaving it on there for a few mins, and washing it off with cool water is a winning combination.
It has made a big difference to me. The change was slow to come about. It didn’t change things over night, but after a couple of weeks, it got better and better and better.
I follow this routine every day, and has now been working for long enough, that I actually believe it could be a long term solution. Touch wood.
I hope that by writing about my discovery does not put the kiss of death on the treatment !!!
Hope this helps some others. I feel duty bound to spread the word.
