Re: TheObserver-Laugh it up you could be next......
I agree since from my experience living
near the "Sanctuary" city of Houston,
one quickly realizes how fast the failure
to assimilate is transforming my world
where I live and work, into a Hispanic
community. Unless you or they speak the
language, it is difficult to communicate
with each other. When I am in stores,
mostly it is not English I am hearing.
Also, I find, I have to tell check-out
clerks what something is in English as
there is often a disconnect. There are
plenty of television channels too which
are in a different language. The effort
here to make our country bi-lingual is
well underway. Of course, there is not
an effort to assimilate or teach them
to speak English or me to speak Spanish.
It makes it easier to see how globally
in the decades ahead, if we all last
that long, that something akin to what
supposedly happened with the Tower of
Babel could happen. You could ONLY speak
with those who could understand you and
no one could understand everyone.
I am glad I advised my daughter to skip
French in school and to take Spanish
since I could see it coming even then.
Now 20 years later, we seem to be in the
thick of the repercussions of refusing
to change our immigration policy while
still keeping our culture. The writing
is on the wall...and its not English
where I live.
best wishes,
Zoe
