Snow by Hopinso

We had a little snow this morning. It did not stick to the roads or the ground, but when I looked out my bedroom window this morning the woods across the road had been lightly frosted with fluffy powdered sugar snow. My car had about 1/2 inch of snow on it. After church I decided to run on in to Fayetteville to get some gas and some canned soup for a quick hot meal. It was snowing quite a bit, but not sticking except on grass and trees. Here in Northwest Arkansas we frequently get a layer of ice, freezing rain or sleet before it snows. That sure makes driving difficult, especially on the rural back roads where there is no preparation for snow and ice.
Last winter I was stuck here at home with only a five pound bag of rice and 20 pounds of dog food. I got so sick of nothing but rice for three days. I was contemplating experimenting with a dogfood, herb tea and rice casserole when it finally warmed up enough to melt the ice. About six years ago I was invited to spend Christmas with some cousins in Crawford County. All they wanted for Christmas was some of my homemade candy. I made about seven pounds of fudge, peanut brittle and butterscotch haystacks and then I got snowed in on Christmas Eve. I had not bought any groceries since I was going to be away and wound up living on candy and melted snow for several days. I have not made any candy since then.
Snow is beautiful, but around here it is also a major headache. Few people can really drive in snow and lots of folks spend a good part of the day in the ditch. Since I have been in a wheelchair and have such poor balance, strength and range of motion, a snow day is time to stay home and wish I lived in sunny Florida. Tweet
