I was diagnosed with UC in April 2006, was put on the drug Asacol and took it regularly for maybe a year. After that, I ran out of pills and never went back to the doctor, as I didn't have a severe case. I had occasinal bouts, but nothing serious. I ran across this website randomly in March 2008 after I had slowly gotten worse and worse, after leaving a pretty stressful job and had not been eating so well. I didn't know if the people posting above were legit or if they were just trying to sell something. I went to Whole Foods and bought Nativa Brazilian mate just to test it out, to see if it worked. It works. And I've tested it going on and off the mate several times, and it's pretty amazing the difference. I'm no doctor, but if this thing keeps me away from doctors and off pills for the rest of my life, I'm sold. Nativa is just the brand I use because it's the most accessible. It cost like $15 for a two pound bag. I go through one every 5 or 6 weeks. Well worth it. The pills were costing me like 50 every 2 months or so, not to mention doctors, surgeries in the future, medical insurance costs... blah blah blah.
Just want you to know, no one hired me, I'm just some dude who found this page like you, and mate seems to have a huge beneficial effect on my UC. I'm really glad I found this page. I wish I could see the inside of my colon, but I can only guess the difference is huge. Good luck.
