An experiment...

We lived for a year on land served by sweet well water.

It tasted fine, but my imagination wondered about the old piping into this 1960-70's house.

So, just in case, I would look at any blue sky out the window, or through any clouds, with my hand on the tap, and said the word 'infinity'...in case that helped.

Then we moved to another old house, this time close to the heart of our city.

The tap-water here is foul. In a way, chlorination, etc., is unnecessary because we are no more than 8 feet above the aquafer (ground water), which cleans itself as it flows through a few feet of rock and soil.

Anyway, we are now on city water, and it smells...especially when it rains and city workers 'shock' the water supply with chlorine, or whatever they use.

(The city likes to speak of the ultra violet water purification system they have here, but I don't know which houses it is delivered to...although I can guess.)

We use a Brita filter. And, I let the tap run a bit, in the hope of clearing stagnant water from the old pipes.

Then it dawned on me that there are people in this world who would be eager for this very glass of water I hold in my hand, no matter what is in it.

I decided to be eager for this glass of water, too...and I bless and thank it. I also remember that these molecules of water have been around for millions/billions of years, continually cleansing themselves, and serving every form of life.

The water now tastes fine, as my body adjusts and that's all we have...and I wonder at the gap between 'reality' and the powers of the mind and body.

I have also wondered if the mind can return foods, etc., to their originally intended state.

I bless, thank, and appreciate things, just in case.

Dh, 84, has never been a water-drinker. During his third bout of vertigo, recently, he was helpless to care for himself and had to depend on me. He appreciated the fresh glasses of water I kept within his reach, and sipped them constantly...even in the night.

I also have a knack of preparing small amounts of food with every kind of appeal. He ate it all, and enjoyed it...although he has been a meat-and-potatoes man all of his life.

As he returned to his usual self, an active person, he began to ask for scrambled eggs and crisp bacon for breakfast.

Now, of course, he is active once more, and makes sure he gets mostly the stuff he usually has.

However, since I told him I prefer he never gets vertigo again, thank you very much...and reminded him gently that one can't keep doing the same old, same old, expecting different results...he has become quite proud of his hankering for a salad, sometimes. ...Even if it IS iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, and bottled ranch dressing.

He eats lots of fruit...and likes peanuts by his side, most of the time.

Sigh.

I think I'm going to exercise a little more strategy, for I am a very good nurse. He even remarked that I have a good sense of taste in preparing appealing meals...so he noticed.

Besides, I am a different person, more motivated and energetic, happier, when I am the head cook and bottle-washer.

No vertigo, ever again, may be the 'carrot'.

Meanwhile, we are now looking for a house to rent, on well-water...and heritage land.

:D
