Re: Gulf War syndrome a real illness
Once again... this is a reflection of the mind-body split that persists in modern medicine... both allopathic and very often non-allopathic as well.
YES... Gulf War Syndrome is a REAL illness.
NO... Gulf War Syndrome is NOT a psychiatric illness.
YES... the root cause of Gulf War Syndrome is STRESS.
As it stands now... whether they call it a physical illness or a 'mental' illness... the pharmaceutical... and now the natural health industries still stand to make a lot of money from it. (By the way... these two industries are no longer separate... in case that hasn't already been noticed.) Until the root cause is addressed... the treatments are either harmful... leading to side-effects and future health problems... or... at best marginally effective. One reason for this change of heart may be related to the passage of 'mental health' parity that was buried in the bailout agreement... which means that there is no longer as much of a financial advantage to classify it as a psychiatric condition. Either way... as long as this misinformation persists... pharma and the medical community will make out like a bandits... not only from the original illness... but also from the cascade of subsequent health problems that result.
Ironically.... this condition is simultaneously much more serious than is being reported... while also being quite simple and relatively cheap to treat... especially when it is appropriately evaluated and addressed in its early manifestations.
As for any further elaboration from me... that'll just have to wait!
