Crappies are members of the sunfish family and their taste is anything but "crappy". They are widely considered one of the very tastiest of all fresh water fish. I rank them right up there with rainbow trout, walleye, bluegill perch and channel catfish. They come in two varieties: the black crappie (pictured on the left) and the white crappie (right). Most people do not know the difference and both varieties are found in all 48 contiguous states of the US.
