Iodine absorption
I began taking 4 12.5 iodoral tabs about 18 months ago. I have fibrocystic breasts and very low basal a.m. temps (95.0 - 97.0). I didn't have any other symptoms of thyroid issues other than the temps. I took the 4 iodorals for several months and never had any improvement in symptoms or detox reactions. I dropped to one iodoral tab per day and left it at that.
A month ago I was reading some information by a nutritionist where she briefly mentioned that if a body is low in vitamin E the thyroid will not be able to absorb iodine. Since I don't have a good E source in my diet other than the very occasional avacado, I started taking a couple tablespoons of wheat germ oil (supplying 130 iu of E) each morning and went back up to 4 iodorals. Well, I had a headache and decent fatigue for about 3 days and by the second day my morning temps were reading 97.5 - 99.0! It's been a couple weeks and the temps have stayed up, but I haven't seen any improvements in my cysts yet. I wouldn't expect changes in that regard for at least a month.
Has anyone else had similar reactions to vitamin E?
Also, I NEVER have dry skin. Since starting the E I've had dry itchy skin. I know that vitamin E keeps vitamin A from being wasted in the body and I consume quite a bit of naural animal source A in foods. I thought perhaps I was having dry skin due to too much A as this can be a sign of toxicity. I cut quite a bit of A out of my diet for several days, but the dry skin persisted. I also read that 20% of
Iodine is contained in the skin and symptoms of low
Iodine can be dry skin. Could this be a healing reaction as more
Iodine is finally being supplied to the skin or is this just part of the halogen detox even though the more "usual" detox symptoms vanished after 3 days and never returned. I'm leaning toward this explanation right now.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
