Why not try the treatment -what do you have to lose. Take a look at MegaZyme by Enzymatic Therapy, they offer a high potency protelytic (sp) enzy at a great price. I have never heard of the monolaurin/caprylic acid combo, but a google search on monolaurin and protozoa reveled some hits, who knows it could work. Also you may want to consider chinesis coptis (best price is at Kamwo) this has been shown effective against b. hominis.

Did the mother say how long it took to clear this?
