"""Question
Hello Dr. Fisher,
I desperately need your advice. I've had an ongoing problem with my lips. They are consistantly red and irritated. They are also constantly dry and peeling. I also have a history of eczema. My eczema is definitely under control. I have seen numerous derms(NYC) and nothing seems to work. Past prescriptions included Pramasone 2.5%, protopic and I've tried everything on the market. THe last derm that I visited had given me an all natural lip balm. It worked for about 2 weeks and the symptons came back again. This was the most soothing out of everything. I work in a corporate environment and this problem is really embarassing. Please help me !

Answer
You have a skin condition called Chelitis. This can be caused by many products or even the sun. Lip stick as well as other cosmetics can cause this problem. Sun damage can also cause this problem. I have patients use Aquaphor Ointment on the lips 4-6 times a day. If that does not help then I prescribe Lidex Ointment to be used twice a day. If that fails which is rarely does then I treat the lips with liquid nitrogen to help exfolicate old tissue and let new skin develop."""
