hickory nuts

my dog is a black lab mix. he is quite herbal and goes out in the woods and chooses particulary plants to nibble on, sometimes the same plant whenever we pass by.

but lately he has been eating hickory nuts. he loves them. he crunches them up and eats them. and since he has been doing this, his coat is ultra soft and smooth and shiny, for obvious reasons.

what i want to know is will this harm him? the nuts are sharp when he crunches them. he also seems to be full of them sometimes and strains to poop.

he has definitely let me know he needs more efas. anything else i should do?
