blood in post nasal drip?

in the mornings when i get up i have blood stuck in the back of my throat only in mornings..i have post nasal drip for years now but what can be the cause of blood in it? ive also had blood in it for yearssss..............one doc had said its just your gums but really its not....it comes from way back in my throat not my gums
