First timer...not sure about some things

OK, last week I did my first cleanse, and I have a few questions:

I saw green in my stool but it was part of the stool itself, I did not dissect it. How do people know if these are stones without picking through the bowel movement? This may sound silly, but I read about the colander thing, but even though it is more consistent with diarhhea, it is not all liquidy it is just softer, so my whole bowel movement would be in the colander. I am a little confused to know how many and what I am passing.

Secondly, if I eat a light meal earlier in the day, can I still do a cleanse that night (I would tend to do these things very late a night due to my schedule)???
