On Generators and other stuff

I'm playing catch up on the forum here. Fabulous, fabulous idea to start this. Thank you all.

OK, on generators: are y'all saying NOT to get one? Because they'll just get stolen?

On other stuff:

What if you're a city dweller?

Have no income and are dependent on government aid?

Have no man in your life?

No dog either, and no guns?

What if you have children?

Have a medical need dependent on the medical system?

Are elderly?

Disabled?

Have no land to run off to?

Have no savings, or the savings is hung up by escrow or divorce or something?

What if you don't know and couldn't necessarily trust your neighbors?

What if you're nowhere near a water source?

What if your entire family thinks you're nuts for wanting to prepare for a disaster ("yeah, you thought Y2k was going to be a big, deal, too")?

Not all of these scenarios affect me, but enough of them do, and I'm sure there are others reading this forum who are asking the same questions.
