Solar Cooking
This is one of the best websites for
info on solar cooking~~

Even if you do not think you would use
this form of cooking, it is good to
familiarize yourself with the basics
since solar cookers are easily made
and you may find yourself needing one
someday. Here is a link to many plans,
some as simple as an old tire with a
piece of glass on it~~

I live in Texas and so solar energy is
plentiful. My favorite simple cooker is
this Solar HotPot.

Here is one place that offers them~~

I also use some welder's glasses when I use
mine to protect my eyes. I found some at a
great price on ebay~~

I have a larger parabolic cooker since
I figured I would try to fit a niche as
cooker when and if the heck hits the fan.
There will be plenty of wild game to be
found where we are and a parabolic cooker
can fry anything in short order. It will
also boil water, averaging 3 liters every
25 minutes, which will also be of benefit~~

There are tons of plans online which will
help you appreciate solar cooking. You can
also find many plans to make a solar cooker
from as simple as a car visor folded to
focus the sunlight, to any number of versions
of a parabolic cooker. In many countries
this simple technology is being used to
free up time and resources. Often many
hours are spent gathering fuel. Fuel can
be difficult to find in some countries
and people who gather it command great
prices for what they find. If solar is
used, that money and time can go for food
or other necessities.
For me, the number one reason to use solar
would be to pasteurize water if I have to
get it from a running source like a river
or lake. Cooking is also high on the list
of reasons I like solar too. I suppose I
have been a fan of "Sun" tea for many many
years. Now, I have taken sun tea "high tech"...ggg.
