Baking soda does have its value. While it does temporarily neutralize stomach acid, which does remove acid from the body, some of it can and does get to the body helping to further neutralize acidity.
When combined with vinegar, it does release carbon dioxide which will escape through the nearest exit.
Baking soda has been around and used for thousands of years in the form of fire ash.
There is a difference between baking soda and baking powder which has aluminum in it.
