Sinus Eye Pressure? Or Merely Referred Neck Pain?
Hello, about 3 months ago I started having two sets of symptoms appear simultaneously:
1)Seemingly Sinus-Related Symptoms – Severe pressure behind my eyes, dull headaches/flashes of head pain
2)Seemingly Computer Strain-Related Symptoms – Wrist/finger discomfort and/or soreness, neck and shoulder tightness
The second set of symptoms is something I have experienced on and off for the last 10 years, related to working at the computer. So recently I’ve been to a bunch of doctors, have had blood tests, CT Scans, and have been told to try decongestants, Loratamine-based OTC’s, antiobiotics, and Flonase--all to no avail. The symptoms did mitigate quite a bit after the first month, but have more or less “flat-lined” to a tolerable level since then--and it wasn’t clear if there was anything I was doing that caused the mitigation (although I did notably reduce my working hours). The eye pressure seems to bug me the most when I do “focused work”—e.g., driving, computer work, reading. I’ve discerned that the characteristics in common are not only that I focus my eyes (which have tested fine twice) but that obviously I’m also sitting and holding my head more or less still.
Anyway, my 1st CT Scan showed a nasal spur, a deviated septum, and evidence of past sinus infection. An ENT took a look at me and said he wasn’t concerned about those things. The 2nd CT Scan (right before my insurance ran out) supposedly has shown “clear evidence of sinus disease”. That said, I only had post-nasal drip in the morning during the 1st month back when pollen was high--and it was at best minor. During these 3 months I have never been congested—not even once that I can recall!
So if I have some sort of “sinus disease”, what kind of sinus disease evades
Antibiotics ? (There was some concern at one point because of a rash I had had, my symptom set, and my exposure to a Lyme endemic area that I might have had a more systemic disease like Lyme, so as a precaution I’ve been on
Antibiotics for > 1 month.) I read once that some sinus conditions can be fungal-related--is that an option here?
. . . Or is this latest reading of the CT Scan off base and all just symptoms referred from the back of my neck area? Since I have suffered from neck/shoulder strain-related issues for years and I see in a recent posting that someone concluded that that was more the source of there issues, I had to wonder. In this case I had been doing less computer work than usual--therefore it seemed a mystery as to why I would have “computer strain” symptoms, BUT I had been doing much, more reading than usual (in which the head is pulled down more than with computer work).
Any suggestions? I’ve got an appointment set up with a different ENT 2 1/2 weeks from now and I’m going to go to a chiropractor later today. Any suggestions of experiments that might help me test what is going on in my body would be much appreciated! TIA . . .
