Re: i think i made a huge mistake: mirena

Hi everyone.

This my first time on this site and I am so glad I found it. I had the Mirena placed one month ago and I had not stop bleeding since. Initially, I thought that I would spot a couple of days and it would go away like it did when I had the Paraguard IUD some years ago but it had not. I have acne, depression, vertigo, bloating, and some backache. I have a follow up appt with my doctor to see how I am doing and I am miserable. I chose Mirena because I have hypertension and a heavy periods and was told that this would be good for me. Because of my hypertension, I am unable to take any kind of birth control with hormones in it and my husband and I have not used anything in 4 years which was kind of getting "old". I questioned my doctor about the hormones in the Mirena and she said that because it was not going directly in my blood stream that the small amount of hormone would not affect my Bp, which it haven't so far. My bleeding in sometime heavier than my usual flow. My question is, " How long will this bleeding go on?" This has just seem to add to my problems instead of fixing them. I've call the helpline but all they do is read of the information sheet that was given to me. I need to hear from someone who actually have or had to Mirena what my expectations are to see what my next step should be.
