Re: At what time should one go out in the sun?
Hi Grz,
excellent post.
Science!!
I always find it quite amazing when
Science always seems to make a subject that is really very simple into something that is quite complicated.
Animals can be exposed to the direct rays of the sun at all times of the day, but do we ever here of them dying because of solar-induced radiation?
They will instinctively avoid the heat of the sun, and only expose themselves to the sun in the cooler parts of the day by choice. I have two dogs which conform to the same habits naturally.
An old saying in the UK is that "only mad dogs & Englishmen sit out in the midday sun" where most of the heat of the day accumulates.
I think the important thing here to bear in mind is that ANY sun-exposure needs to avoid sunburn, which, in my opinion, is the major cause of solar-induced cancers.
I have sunbathed over the years by building up slowly and limiting my exposure to the direct rays of the sun to only a few minutes to begin with, and gradually increasing that time to over an hour or two at any time of day, just so long as my body has adjusted itself, via melanin, which is the bodys natural protector against the suns rays.
This reminds me of a Shakespeare play entitled "Much Ado about Nothing".
