i had my wife working on the answer and was working through it out loud when she blurted out the answer.

being able to think like a psychopath does not make one a psychopath. it simply makes one a very logical thinker. this is part of the "intelligence is evil" motif in our culture. my best friend wrote an entire treatise on this subject once and it was some of the finest non-fiction i have ever read. it was never published.
