Re: ? diference between dairy case and freeze-dried probiotics?

There's a big disparity in brands of probiotics. Most are garbage but there ARE a few very good ones.

The best I've been able to discover is Flora Source. They have a special protecting process that alows the probiotic to get into the colon. The product mentioned by Hili is pretty good too.

The ones at the healthfood store don't make the grade. The best ones there would be the refrigerated kind. Usually I want folks on the probiotics right now so I send them to the healthfood store. You'll get more of the good germs with the refrigerated one because they haven't been processed down to where they are a powder and can withstand heat.

You'll get the best probiotics from Pineapple but the rest of the pineapple makes them rather difficult to take in abundance. My mouth gets sore when I eat too much of it. Oranges are good too for probiotics.

Freeze drying and freezing in general is prefered for most things. Most - not all. Freeze drying is when they freeeze it and then take the ice (water) out of the product. There's much less processing when done that way so it IS valid.

Frozen fruits and vegetables are great because they have to let the crop ripen on the vine or in the tree and then pick it and freeze it. Obviously if it's been ripened on the vine or tree it's going to have complete nutrition in it. Most fruits and veggies you get in the store are picked green and ripen on its journey to the store. So if you can't get local produce or produce that doesn't take a week to get there go with frozen fruits and veggies. They have to ripen on the plant.

In general freeze drying eliminates some of the processing so it's the way to go.
