Re: asthma and triggers

I have had asthma since birth, asthma is by definition a reaction by the lungs to a certain irritant. This irritant may be nothing to the average person but to many asthmatics simple dog or cat hair can trigger an attack. You didn't say how old your friend is, but if she is young they have a good chance of outgrowing it. Here are the main triggers: air borne, furry animal danders,in old homes...dust mites, roach dust from infestation previously. Insectisides, absestoes, etc. plant molds after watering, plants and tree spores in spring. Lawns after mowing,Evergreen trees in spring. Foods are : peanuts, strawberries, fungi (mushrooms) chocolate, shell fish deadly to some. Each asthmatic learns their triggers and avoids them. I have been in the hospital many times and finally, I have a reasonable life and manage very well. Help your friend by not insisting she exercise or run without using albuterol spray first. Don't tease, and accept them as normal when they do have to use the sprays in public. Try this once.. hold your breath as long as you can, then breathe. Feel the panic? She has a real friend. My compliments to you for caring.
