Re: The biggest U.S. outbreak of measles since 1997 hits 127 people in 15 states

How and why do vaccinated people get the disease they were vaccinated against? This makes me wonder if there are different flavors of measles. Is it conceivable that un-vaccinated people who get measles generally get vanilla, while people vaccinated against measles who still get measles end up with tuti-fruiti measles? Have their been genuine studies done on this situation in an attempt to find out how and why some vaccinated people don't get the disease while others do?

Just trying to turn this frown upside down, this report seems to be saying that for those people so minded, now might be a good time to have a tuiti-fruiti measles party throughout the greater US. Can you imagine what this will look like down the road? Lets say 30 years from now, through no fault of their own, a person ends up at a doctor. The doctor has reason to ask "have you ever been inoculated against measles?". The person replies "no, but I got them anyway, at a party". The doctor asks "what do you mean?". The person says "well, after I managed to avoid inoculations like they were the plague, there was an outbreak in the year 2008 that caused inoculated people to get measles, so I got that kind". Doctor "you got what kind? How did you get what kind?". Person "I got the kind of measles that was said to happen to people who were inoculated against measles, except, I got them from somebody who had not been inoculated. We called it a measles party. There were several people there, children and adults, many of us got the measles from each other at that party. This was after one brave soul among us had done the dirty job of getting the measles to base the party on....we're still not sure how that happened, exactly. We speculated that the person in question either got measles by pure accident or perhaps got them while associating, secretly or unwittingly, with the kind of people who fell in for inoculations. It's all very unclear... those were some confused times, the early 2000s. Anyway, somehow, some way, this one person got a hold of some measles, we then had a party, and the measles spread among us". Doctor "hmmm, this is all rather unnerving... I think I better write you a prescriiption for something, or else send you to somebody else, perhaps a specialist, or maybe a psychologist .... let me see, let me check the weekly FDA reference to see what we are pushing on er, um, I mean, prescribing for crazy people um, I mean, for people in your condition ... let me see what I am supposed to offer people in you condition this week". Person " there there, doc, it's not so bad, get a grip on your self, you might eventually be okay. In the mean time, why don't you forget all of that prescriiption / referral noise, just take a stiff drink like you often do? Doctor sighs and uneasily sits down "you have a point... I can see my work is done here. Please be sure to check in with the computer on your way out".
