Re: Juice fasting for a dog
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog's cancer. I have a Shepherd with a hip and knee (ACL) problem, and it is tough to see them in any pain.
I'm not sure if I'd go with a juice fast for a dog? I'm interested in what other's have to say.
Schulze says you can fast them (water only) for a day. I suspect that would be a safe bet, but you should watch the detox reactions. Schulze also says you should feed them ground meat and some (25% or less) rice. I would not go with the rice. Dogs are meant to have meat and some veggies (in the wild, it is what they get from the stomach of their kill). They don't eat grains.
There was an interview with
Richard Schulze and Sam Biser about pets, but I think it was removed b/c Biser had copyright issues. I printed it, and can dig it out and post the basics.
You might want to look into BARF diet (bones and raw food). I don't know if I'd go all raw immediately. I would immediately start switching him/her over to meat and veggies, lightly cooked. Beef, chicken, organ meat, etc.. I use broccoli, kale, chard, etc. Dark green veggies are great raw carrots and cabbage are a great treat. Raw eggs on occassion too.
Distilled water might be a good idea for cleansing.

A good wholistic vet might be helpful. I recently found one. The website is: http://www.ellwoodanimalhospital.com. There are some links on their site, so you may want to take a look. Maybe you could call them and get their suggestions on where to start. I was just there and they were telling me about a Burmese Mt. Dog they treated that had cancer and got better. They use chiropractic, accupuncture, NAET, essential oils, etc.
Watch your dog closely. See how s/he responds to different foods, etc. Remember there may be some detox, but pay close attention. My dog seemed to have a detox reaction recently. He vomitted a lot of mucus. I had the same reaction during a fast (we're starting to look alike too;).
I hope this helps. Blessings to you and your best friend!
