Lactulose can be gotten only with a prescriiption in the US, and I understand not so in the UK.  The National Institue of Health and the University of Washington (Seattle, Washington) recommend the use of "laxatives, such as lactulose, to decrease intestinal transit time [which] may also reduce the amount of trimethylamine in the gut" for the management of trimethylaminuria. http://rarediseases.info.nih.gov/GARD/QnA.aspx?PageID=4&CaseID=20839&...

Lactulose is a type of medicine called an osmotic laxative. In treating constipation lactulose works by increasing the water content and volume of the stools in the bowel, making them softer and easier to pass. Lactulose is made up of sugar molecules and is broken down by the bacteria that live in the lower part of the gut. This leads to the contents of the gut becoming more acidic, which reduces the absorption of a chemical called ammonia. The presence of ammonia in the gut causes water to be drawn into the lower bowel. This increases the amount of water in the stools, softening them and making them easier to pass, thus relieving constipation. The worst odor my son had was fecal bad breath, which is the first to come back when he breaks his diet or long term supplement doses and usually right before he takes the lactulose to cleans his gut.  Other people have had success with oxy powder instead of lactulose too.  He has also had a sulfur, musty odor in his sweat from his back, neck, and scalp.  It was an extremely strong odor that would fill a large room within seconds or few minutes with only his presence.  However, he did not have during this time, and currently does not have underarm or foot odor.
