Re: cottage cheese

Katie,

All those listed foods are "hard" to digest; because your body is not producing the necessary enzymes, or enough of them. I've always read that we produce fewer enzymes as we age. This is unnecessary. There must be a reason for this behavior.

Supplement vendors will be glad to sell you digestive enzymes. Those supplements are typically more expensive than others.

I'm on the Charlie bandwagon. This is why it is unnecessary for aging to cause such a decrease in production of digestive enzymes.

"Two “solid” digestive organs, the liver and the pancreas, produce digestive juices that reach the intestine through small tubes called ducts. The gallbladder stores the liver’s digestive juices until they are needed in the intestine. Parts of the nervous and circulatory systems also play major roles in the digestive system."

So here we go again. It's that liver thing again. The liver produces these "digestive juices" which are enzymes. However, it is not going to do it, if it is already sluggish. Age is only a contributing factor for the slow down of enzyme production; but it should be correctable with a quality liver tonic.
