Re: Is there a connection between old emotions and colon cleansing? Article by Richard Anderson
I agree with this post - It seems quite convincing.
Bowel cleansing does bring considerable relief - both physically and consequently - psychologically. I've tried it myself on atleast 5-6 occasions.
This is indeed a very though-provoking post. One must think of how much filth is being accumulated day-after-day and will be ashamed of one's body contents. Research too proves the point.
In addition, let me give you a view from Ayurveda and Indian philosophy:
Ayurveda:
Accumulated inpurities do lead to diseases. Ayurveda prescribes various elaborate regimens ranging from simple oils and complex ghees to the elaborate Panchakarma treatments. Ayurveda also recommends yogasan, pranayam for speedy elimination of impurities on a regular basis. These are good for mental well-being as well. With regular practice of yoga, meditation, one can be sure to be rid of depression or any psych. disorders.
Indian Philosophy:
Emotions are the result of the type of food we eat and the kind of resultant filth that accumulates. No doubt true. Food is classified as Sattvik, Raajasik and Taamasik based on the effect it has on the individual's overall well-being.
However, it doesnot stop at that: Emotions, thoughts are accumulated over a period of time. Not only this birth - but previous incarnations. Hence we see some people born genuises, some dead-wicked. Even twins, although similar by physical appearance, have completely different tastes, qualities and ambitions.
This is what modern psychology has termed 'Impressions of the Subconscious mind' or 'Samskaaras'. These impressions make a person think in a certain fashion and direct his actions in real-life. Some impressions are good and some are bad.
To sum-up:
Indian culture advocates that for general well-being:
- go for clean, fresh, saatvik food
- do regular cleansing
- do yoga, pranayama
In addition, spiritual methods are also suggested to take care of the impressions:
- promote and increase good-impressions through bhajan, meditation, selfless-service(seva) to the community, satsang, pilgrimages...etc
While addressing the problem at the physiological level is important(in the very short-term), mental-level is more important(for the short-term). How, it is the spiritual-level efforts that will bring a permanent solution towards HEALTH. If efforts are made at trhe physical level, the pent-up emotions are going to come-back very soon. Because they are not gone anywhere- they are very much there in the individual's subconscious mind. Removal of impressions from the subconscious requires hypnotherapy or spiritual remedies only.
