liver congestion and cause

Charlie,
I keep forgetting to ask you. People ask me often "how did your liver get so congested, you eat so healthy?". I am inclined to think, well I did not always eat right, but more than that, how much damage does anorexia do to the liver? I mean that was 20plus years ago for me, but is that one of those diseases that can do a ton of damage in a short period of time? Or would it be more likely be the poor diet in years following that? OR, maybe it was all the trauma i went through having sergury with no anesthesia. I dont know if trauma damages the liver.
