Re: Sodium benzoate linked to damage to DNA - and its in Diet Coke (Australia)

YIKES!

On the other hand, I'm not really surprised, and I don't really think it matters if they remove it. I mean, Diet Coke MANY troublesome ingredients that make it a horrible, damaging beverage, removing that one ingredient will not make it safe to drink.

* Carbonated Water
* High Fructose Corn Syrup
* Caramel Color
* Phosphoric Acid
* Natural Flavors
* Caffeine
* Aspartame (NutraSweet brand)
* Potassium or Sodium Benzoate
* citric acid

Let's see... remove all the "bad" ingredients and you'll just have carbonated water! And even that one's debatable!

The best solution is to not drink it, or any "soft drinks", period.
