Question about heaering damage

My brother threw a lightweight ball at me u know the ones where u get at the dollar store and they are made of plastic well he threw one at me and it hit me right on the ear but he didnt throw it that hard and the ball isnt hard can someone telll me is it possible to get hearing damage this way
