Another possible answer to why

Quite a while ago I read something about programming the corporate world. I'm not sure where I read it. Basically, the gist is that the people that move up the ladder are made. They are handpicked from some proto-type that the corporate world created. I can't even list the features, but the ability to conform to the proto-type seems to take priority to accomplishments. People who are accomplished but don't fit the proto-type are too independent. They're individuals that can't be molded for the sole purpose of the company. I'm not sure how that all works in other work environments. I've always had my blinders on with my employment my entire life. I've worked in the service industry or health care and haven't been in employment where I can actually move up. I could move up as far as I can go with my education, but most of those positions I didn't want and turned down or hid when it came time to find a new manager. LOL. I did get roped in this time. The restaurant owner is my dear friend and overly stressed so I took a little burden off him. However, I'm finding that I'm (meaning the real me) clashing with my position. It's the service industry and I'm an excellent server, but I'm used to my managers handling the real nut busters. I find myself tongue tied and flushed and wanting to slap someone. If something isn't cooked right or someone decided to try something new and they just didn't like it, cool, we'll take care of it right away. I love working for a restaurant that's super flexible like that. We have very little throw away. I have to deal with people complaining about the price (as though they're being forced to come in and eat), two or three ice cubes in their drink, people treating me like I'm trying to rip them off (2.13/hr worth of scamming), people blatantly resenting me because I live on tips, and belligerent rude people who think I'm their whipping post for their bad day, that's when my boundaries come up. In the real world, I state my boundaries. In the restaurant world I have to enable people to be a--holes. It's an aberration to my spirit. I keep hearing it's all on how I view things. That notion applied here smells sharply of the corporate prototype grooming.
