Antivirus freeware

What's a good free antivirus program for windows 98se? I have been using AVG but it likes to quarrantine windows files and cause errors. Nearly fried my disk this week. I am using Lavasoft Adaware antispyware too. Seems pretty good but every once in a while it gets "error retrieving update." I think AVG is causing that. I uninstalled AVG and removed it under add/remove. I need a new free virus scanner soon. I can't afford to buy one.
