colonics vs enemas
What is everyone's opinion of enemas versus
colonics for bowel cleansing? I have tried both and this is what I have found. First of all I will freely admit that
colonics are more comfortable than enemas. I will also admit that unless an enema volume is large (2-3 liters), it is not possible to clean the entire bowel. I have had 5
colonics and in each case, about 1 liter of water was delivered during each "fill". While it is true that 50 gallons may have been delivered (there was no measurement done, so who knows)the water was essentially cleaning the same last 2 ft or so of the colon and depending on peristalsis to empty the remaining portion of the bowel. This, in my opinion is why colonics are so comfortable. Also, any solids that are present must essentially be dissolved for the
colonic to empty the bowel. This is not a very efficient process. I wonder why an enema is not given just before a colonic, so that it would be more efficient.
I have even tried to prep for both sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy by fasting and then having a colonic. In both cases it was a failure. However I was able to successfully clean the bowel for sigmoidoscopy using 2 one-liter soapy enemas followed by a 2-liter tap water rinse. For colonoscopy, I took a series of 2-3 liter saline enemas. I also followed the fasting regimen for the colonoscopy.
So, when you think about the cost for colonics, let alone all the "cleanse" salts that are being sold versus the very low cost of enema equipent ($20 for a 3-liter enema bag), it would seem that enemas are the way to go. No?
