A Typical Day In The Life Of RG
I wake at 4:30am, put on some coffee and dress.
5am after 2 cups of coffee - I go milk my one milk cow.
6am after cleaning up after milking, I feed and water my cattle, horses, chickens, dogs, cats and hogs.
7am I have more coffee and breakfast either at home, with neighbors or at the cafe in town. Some mornings I am called upon by the family to take a grandkid to school, fix a flat or boost off a dead battery - this cuts down on the socializing :)
8am-12 noon I am usually at work - making custom formulas first - tending to the needs of the herbs - sorting out any employee problems - having customer service meetings and answering emails (upwards of 100 per day)- and posting here if I have the time.
12-1 I have dinner and check on the herb levels of the folks in the production department - replenishing what is needed.
1-3pm More formulas and a meeting with the shipping department to see what is going out and to turn in my customs for the day.
3-5pm Some days I work HUMAWORM, some days I pick up grandkids from school, some days I take grandkids to dancing lessons or baseball practice.
5-6 pm I milk Miffy the milk cow again and feed everyone else again.
6-7 pm I have supper - sometimes I cook supper.
Before dark - I work in my garden and do any other odd chores that might be needing to be done. Fence mending, nailing down a shingle on the barn, putting out the trash barrels and such.
9 pm If all is well, I go to bed. Although I have been known to stay up waiting for a calf, foal or piglets to be born.
Depending on the time of year: Sometimes I go to cattle sales - somtimes I'll spend most of the day putting up fruits and vegetables - sometimes I have to work on a tractor or a hay bailer or the truck - sometimes I have to work with my cattle all day - sometimes I work in the garden all day - sometimes I am at the computer all day corresponding with a sick adult or with a parent of a sick child. Sometimes I take the kids fishing - sometimes I work the pecan orchard all day.
My life is no different than most folks - I work hard to make a living. I do the best I can with HUMAWORM. Sometimes it all flows very smoothly and other times we hit speed bumps and pot holes :) Sometimes we have herb shipments that are late - this can halt production of some things which in turn slows down shipping. We send out about 1,000 orders (not just HUMAWORM - this is complete orders) per week. More in the Spring and Fall. That's a lot of capsules, envelopes, instructions, herbs and baggies :)
Yes - it would probably be much easier if I farmed out the capsule production to a capsule making company - but I think the quality would greatly suffer. This is why we will continue to hand make all of our products. Certain herbs need to be aged - certain herbs need certain treatment and so on and so forth and I want to make sure it is done properly. Like I have said before - after payroll, taxes and overhead - I don't make much money from HUMAWORM - I make our living from my cattle. I make more profit from one monthly cattle sale than I do from 3 months worth of HUMAWORM profit. BUT - I have a lot of happy employees who can support their families.
No excuses here - just explainations of how things work here in Mississippi :)
