housing alternatives for folks w mcs???
Hi, all!
Anyone know what folks with low income are doing for housing if they have severe MCS and very low income?
The HUD [USA govt supported low income] housing in my area would not work, too much exposure to other's or communal personal care products, cleaning and laundry products, pesticides, etc. The directors also seem to think that smokers have an inalienable right to smoke in the common areas.
I have heard that many have ended up living in their cars and that there is quite a group of these in Arizona, USA.
After several searches on the Internet, can only find one facility to address this need, and it has no openings, no discernible waiting list even!!!
As one gets older, where does one go if one can't keep up their residence? Or become increasingly unable to tolerate it?? Even the expensive private senior housing developments are not designed to be accessible for those with severe MCS.
I checked out ecovillages and co-housing, too. Either too expensive, or required mandatory group activities that would be unsafe for me without a heroic degree of accommodation on the part of all other residents. [How likely is that to happen ????] The few projects of this sort on the net that were aimed at MCS folks either were dead sites for projects that never got off the ground, or had all the participants needed and did not respond when I emailed them.
And as for rest home or hospice care??? Go fish!!!!! Of course, that may not matter, because a hospital stay when sufficiently sick or injured to require such would be very likely to crash one's immune system and result in opportunistic infections if the initial toxic exposures didn't do one in. All these facilities and the professionals associated with them are VERY resistant to admitting that there is a problem and a need, and nowhere near adequately addressing it.
Anybody have any ideas/solutions??? Either ones that have worked or ideas of what might????
Thanks in advance.
