I had mirena implanted at the age of 24. I had it for 19 months. In that time I experienced hair loss so severe I considered buying a wig.I would have handfuls of hair fall into my hand while washing my hair. I also had excess hair on my upper lip, chin, stomach, breasts and darker thicker hair on my legs and toes. My period completely stopped right away. They say on the side effects pamphlet that most women appreciate no periods to me it was disturbing. I had mirena removed in February of 2007. My hair loss stopped but I have had no regrowth on my scalp. I have to shave my neck and upper lip every few days. This device has made me feel like less of a woman. When I went to a clinic to have it removed my symtoms were so severe they thought I had cancer. My ob wouldn't say for sure my side effects were from the iuc but scolded me for wanting a perefectly good $400.00 birth control device removed. It's been almost 15 months since the removal and I can still see the effects everytime I look into the mirrow and wonder how to camoflage my thin hair. I've even been wondering if it's possible that I am now steril.
I've also been emotionally dealing with how mirena really worked by essentially aborting a baby by thinning to uterine wall and denying it nurishment.
Failing health is not something you expect in your 20's.......that is what Mirena gave me.
