Homeopathy lesson eight
Lesson 8
Miasma, Acute and Chronic
Dr. Hahnemann was the first to perceive and teach about the parasitical nature of infectious or contagious dis-eases.
Dr. Hahnemann stated that "all chronic dis-eases of mankind show a constancy and perseverance, that as soon as they have developed and have not been thoroughly healed by the medical art, they ever more increase with the years, and during the whole lifetime of the person with the dis-ease, they cannot be diminished by the strength belonging even the the most robust constitution. Still less can they be over come and extinguished. Thus they never pass away by them selves, but increase and are aggravated even till death. They must there fore, all have for their origin and foundation in constant chronic miasmas where by there parasitical existence in the human organism is enabled to continually rise and grow, and we know only living beings grow".
It is your duty to perceive the doctrine of miasms scientifically, and to put it into your day to day practice for the recovery of ailing humanity. Any Homeopath who ignores the miasmic theory cannot eliminate deep seated dis-eases.
The word miasm comes from the Greek word miasma which means: stain, pollution, defilement, infection.
Dr. Hahnemann clearly defined miasms as germs, virus, animated, living beings, living creatures, excessively minute invisible living creatures, in short he surely meant micro-organisms.
Miasms can be:
A. Acute (infectious dis-eases, micro-organisms)
B. Chronic (a weakness, a predisposition, a fault, non infectious, non acute)
Although the acute dis-eases are rapidly and completely cured by homeopathy, it was noted by Dr. Hahnemann that some acute dis-eases cured by homeopathy would return and sometimes return more powerful then ever and that this would or could happen more then once. Dr. Hahnemann also noted that chronic dis-ease could be palpitated for a time but would progress for the life of the patient. Regarding the treatment of chronic dis-ease, Dr. Hahnemann stated "its start was pleasing, the continuation less favorable, the out come hopeless" he thought that the following five reasons may be held responsible for this failure:
1. the law of similars might not be a law of universal application.
2. the number of remedies yet discovered were too few to cover all types of dis-eases that afflict man.
3. there might be some defect in the application of the law of similars.
4. there might be some omission in ascertaining the totality of symptoms on which the homeopathic treatment is based.
5. there might be some obstacles overlooked, the presence and non-eradication of which prevented lasting recovery.
Dr. Hahnemann spent 10 years of his life studying this matter and found that the first four points were not accountable for obstacles to lasting recovery from chronic dis-eases, and that the last point was the root of all evils. On further study he found the three chronic Miasms and their homeopathic cure, the are:
1. Psora: the itch (cured by Sulphur)
2. Syphilis: suppurating wounds (cured by mercurius)
3. Psychosis: warts (cured by thuja)
a fourth chronic miasm that Dr. Hahnemann called persdo psora, that has for its indication wasting dis-eases (like tuberculosis) and is cured by phosphorus.
