pyogenic granuloma misdiagnosed

My wife had what we thought was a pyogenic granuloma. The PA who removed it was so sure that was it was that he said so seconds after removing the band-aid that my wife had put on it.

The PA cut the thing off of her neck and cauterized the wound and told her everything was fine.

Everything was fine till a few days later. My wife gets a call for the dermatologist office saying that it wasn't a granuloma, that it was a malignant melanoma.

When the PA removed the thing,he was so positive it was what he thought it was.

The pathologist staged it at a clark's level four. We have found out since then from other sources that a tumor cannot be staged from the removal of a lesion. The Breslows was 4.4. I am assume that the pathologist got this number from the thing he cut from her neck

My question is: Has anyone had this happen to them or heard of this kind of error from a dermatologist before? Also, since he sliced the entire growth from her neck, will any future doctors be able to get enough of whatever it was to determine exactly what it was ?

Thank you for listening
