Re: some foods Low-choline diet

Hi mentallystrong,

Here's a list I made for my son of some foods taken from the USDA Database for the Choline Content of Common Foods (First release prior to January 2008) that are the lowest in choline).  Se e the latest edition of January 2008.  http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/Choline/Choln02.pdf .  I don't think it is your typical Asian diet, but it's all I've got.  On page 11, it gives a general total choline content chart of more generic food types, and hopefully, this will give you an idea of what Asian foods would fall in which category.  The chart on page 11 does show that breakfast cereals don't have as much choline as whole grains, meats & fish, and whole eggs.  If you eat enough cereal, you should gain some weight.  Plus, remember that if you're running so many miles a day, you do need to have some fat and caloric intake, or you'll body will start breaking down muscle for energy.  The chart of various foods starts on page 12 of this report.

DO STAY AWAY FROM FOODS THAT HAVE PRESERVATIVES AND JUNK FOODS, especially with your liver situation, AND DO DOUBLE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR about what foods you need to take to help you heal from hepatits B.  Show him the foods you like best from the USDA's 36 page report, and let him tell you what he thinks of your diet.   Remember that on page 3 of this report it states that the adequate daily intake of choline is 550 mg /day per men and 425 mg/day per women.
