In recent weeks the developing campaign for Presidency has generated belated scrutiny of Jeremiah Wright, pastor of a Church in Chicago attended for twenty years by Barrack Hussein Obama. As noted in this and other spaces, Mr. Wright made many ebullient, impassioned and profane speeches denouncing America as a KKK state, etc. Mr. Obama is ‘shocked’ to hear of these matters and Mr. Wright has resigned. While claiming to ‘transcend race,’ Obama spoke about “typical white men.” But this is only the end of a tangled and unappealing skein that involves the religion and religious professions of Mr. Obama, ignorance about “race relations” in America, about religious intolerance and about the goals of those, like him, who would Balkanize America: “change you can depend on.”

Mr. Wright’s speeches and the mission of his Trinity Church suggest that he is an anti-white racist. The sponsorship of black “identity politics” and of the anti-white racism at its core has permeated the nation these past forty years. Just when Americans agreed that people should be judged by the content of their character, here came a new wave of demands for “racial consciousness” and ‘reparations’ now codified in law. Mr. Obama’s prominence, his long-standing ties to pastor Wright with whose views he must be familiar has brought this ugly fact of social life into the light. The term “black racism” actually was mentioned, briefly with no follow up, on a cable news network late in March.

Mr. Obama’s friendship with Weatherman Lou Ayers also has been reported, at the margins although his discipleship to communist organizers has not, yet. What is curious about Mr. Ayers and his friend Bernadette Dohrn is that they were able to set bombs at the Pentagon, Capitol and State Department before getting caught, and they were set free on a legal nicety. Mr. Ayers since has become a significant player in Illinois politics, which also seems noteworthy, as does the background of Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama who is member of the Chicago branch of the CFR (www.ccfr.org).

Mr. Obama has passionately asserted his Christian faith – as mediated by the inestimable Pastor Wright who married him and baptized his daughters (but not him) – and presented himself as a Democratic messiah whose election would “save America and save the world.” His speeches suggest that his triumph will prove that we have “hope”; if he loses, modest man that he is, we would seem hopeless. Thanks.

One salient fact keeps getting overlooked: because Senator Obama’s father was Muslim, Mr. Obama himself is Muslim; that’s how it works in Islam. That his mother was an atheist is beside the point; that he is not “African-American” in the common sense is not the point; even the fact that he occasionally attended prayer services at a mosque is not the point. He is a Muslim by descent and if he has left Islam than he is considered an apostate (murtad) and liable to death. Since he’s running for president and very heavily funded, someone must have pointed this out to him while he was being groomed.

Scholars of Islam and the laws of dhimma (the condition of legal subservience available to Jews and Christians who pay the jizya and otherwise accept a lowly status) have noted that a declaration (fatwa) of apostasy may be used against Muslims held to be insurgents. As apostates they become targets of jihad and execution. This approach was taken in April 1992 by the religious leaders in southern Sudan to sanction their war on the mostly Muslim population there.[1] This religious war, noted very belatedly by Western media and cast as a war against “animist” and Christians in the south is part of a trend as old as Islam itself. So why does Mr. Obama get a pass? What does it have to do with “the decline of Eastern Christianity under Islam”? [2] Shouldn’t this be an issue with Obama presenting himself as the hope of the world? Is he the Mahdi? Why are Muslims silent about his apostasy, -- do they know his claims of Christianity are as hollow as the rest of his communist, Corporate Collectivist rhetoric and voting record?

Distinguished writer Cliff Kincaid recently discussed the murder late last year of an Archbishop in Mosul; a year earlier the Chaldean Bishop of Baghdad met a similar fate after appealing to Rome (in November 2003) to speak about the fate of the Christians of Mesopotamia. But the Pope was too busy praying in a Turkish mosque, facing Mecca, something that would have gotten him burnt a few centuries ago. This is not new; pleas to the Holy See by Bashir Gemayal were futile; after his election was followed promptly by his assassination in 1982 the Pope did, however, have time to chat with Mr. Arafat.

The decimation of the Christian populations of the Middle East and North Africa are not new, they did not begin in 2003 or after Saddam’s invasion of Iran in 1987 (which led to emigration of 600,000 Christians) but 1370 years ago, along with the destruction through murder and forced conversion of the far more ancient Jewish populations of that vast region already decimated by Rome.[3] The Nestorian Christians, seeking refuge from Papal and, later, Byzantine terror after the Council of Ephesus (431) and the second council of Chalcedon (452) have been enduring mass destruction since the 1930s while the British maneuvered to put their new creation, “Iraq” in place, the same “Iraq” for whose spurious integrity Americans are now struggling, dying and paying while Iran steadily spreads its hegemony over the region. The new regime soon became pro-Nazi, began pogroms against Jews that within twenty years reduced that ancient community from 250,000 to zero.

With Saddam Hussein’s “Arabization” campaign and ongoing dhimmitude, by spring 2005 the Christian of Mesopotamia had dwindled to about 800,000 and the depopulation continues. Writers have noted the irony in this: Arab Christians often have sought acceptance by joining or leading Muslims in vilifying and attacking Jews, and Israel, though this has failed to lead to their acceptance.[4] When the Israelis surrendered sovereignty in Bethlehem to the PLO (“PA”) in 1995 the Christian population there dwindled rapidly from 73% to about 20% and falling as conditions steadily worsen.

This too will not surprise students of history though it should be cause for alarm. The common interest of Rome and Mecca in reducing the Eastern Churches and the Jews is going on thirteen centuries. It was writ large in the German-NATO destruction of Yugoslavia between the Croats and greater Albania and in the Vatican-PLO bilateral accord of February 2000 to control the holy sites of Jerusalem. The current Pope has been a major player in this process since 1992. In one case it was, as often before, the Eastern Orthodox who were decimated; in the other it is the Jews who are subjected to endless attrition and loss of sovereignty. In the modern era, Rome uses largely armies of largely Protestant nations to do carry on the wars of shooting and diplomacy.

These ironies are lost on many writers; they repeatedly deplore America’s “immoral and illegal” war (if one rightly can call it a war rather than a complex process of attrition and globalization leading to a world cult) in Mesopotamia, and deplore the placing and patrol of American armed forces world wide. But these writers never note, much less deplore the use of American personnel to arm and train the PLO in the Promised Land (at the “little Pentagon” near Ramallah and more recently near Jericho), training and arms they use to murder Jews. They may complain about Dick Cheney but not his support for a “Palestinian” State that will render what’s left of Israel indefensible – unless it’s occupied by NATO and EU forces with Jerusalem internationalized (see February 2000 bi-lateral accord, supra). They don’t complain about continuing American involvement in the Balkans where the flight of eastern Orthodox Christians and of Muslims who don’t wish to live under Shari’a continues. They don’t complain that American planes are patrolling the East China Sea and Sea of Japan but are outraged that some Chinese jets have Israeli missiles: apparently, only America, France, England or Russia are entitled to sell arms.
