A Reader asks: "I've heard a lot about digestive cleansing therapies. Are they worth trying??" Answer: "As fun as detox enemas and laxatives sound, stay far away from them. Various websites claim that colon cleansing-using warm water irrigation or a herbal laxative-can clear your skin, lift your mood, improve your concentration and prevent disease, all by removing built-up "toxic excrement". Sounds like a big pile of toxic excrement to us. "These techniques don't detoxify anything" says Jack DiPalma, MD, the director of gastroenterology at the U of S Alabama. "And cleansing enemas are actually dangerous, because they can puncture your colonor introduce infection. The only safe way is to to keep your plumbing in good working order is by eating about 20 grms of fiber a day".................so, are these websites hooeeyy(people are promoting products that make them money)...or are the Dr's just not in the know???
