Sex urge

I am trying to understand why the sexual urge is so strong in humans todays. I dont think it has much to do with procreation any longer. The news is filled with stories of cheating, prostitution, rape. The internet is probably over 50% p 0 r n related material. Prescription meds like v1agra were more than blockbuster drugs. Magazine, films, music is filled with it. It seems like no matter where you turn, you are bombarded with sex.
Is it natural or part of Gods plan to have these overwhelming urges? Would a healthy human lack these urges for the most part? What can one do to fight these temptations?
