Unlike the naturally occurring variety found in free-range eggs, nuts, seeds and avocados, this by-product is always rancid, and is extracted from the sludge left after the oil is removed from the beans. It contains high levels of solvents and pesticides. And guess what? Rather than consign it to the toxic waste dump where it belongs, the manufacturers have instead created another hugely-profitable market out of it as a ‘healthy’ food additive. Among its delightful qualities is the ability to induce severe joint pains (often mistaken for arthritis), and serious gout.
