I think that it is probably a form of detox, but also 4 - 5 drops per liter is probably somewhat high. If you and they decide to continue, try going down to just 2 drops per liter.

They may still get some detox from this, but it should not be very much. (the fact that they may get detox is one very good reason for telling them) :)
