Words are collections of sounds that we use as something symbolic of ideas or things.
Thats all they are. They're just symbols of something.
They're not the thing, they're not the Idea.
We use them as a major part of our communicating.
Cave man only had a few sounds that were in use that were used in this way.
Certain grunts were symbolic of certain things or ideas.
If you have a particular reaction to a group of sounds (a word), then it is due only to the way that you have associated with it and only from past associations.
These associations are established from the way they have been used in your vicinity and the perceptions you have developed from these usages.
