Re: Update - Media Blames Heath Ledger

I have heard both sides today, late in the day
too...drug packets and the rolled up twenty, and
then tonight on national news, twenty tested and
nothing found and no drugs except for the prescription
drugs...

We all know that Ambien has serious side effects and
this kid was popping them, one after another and in
a Depression etc. Obviously there is a need to educate
the public about the dangers of prescription drugs and
the need to take responsibility for our health choices.
So many it seems will get multiple prescriptions and
eat them impatiently. Celebrities seem to have developed
a reputation for this also...

What bothers me about this past two days is how they
roll out the sympathy as if it were a marching band
and going on and on and on and saying what a tremendous
loss this is and yet, they do not go on and on about
the young men and women we are losing daily to a war.
They do not go on and on about the young men and
women lost in the effort by Israel to commit genocide
against the Palestinians, or the effort by this
administration against the Iraqi population. There
are camps full of lives being wasted in Darfur...

Meanwhile, what the American news media feeds us hour
after hour is the endless sentiment about a young man
whose relationship ended because he had a drug problem,
he became depressed and spiraled out of control. Wake up
folks, yes, the guy was an excellent actor. So was
John Belushi and River Phoenix and all the other privileged
young men and woman who decide to use drugs as a way to
cope. While I can appreciate that there is curiosity
and interest in this story, I really felt that it high
lighted the absence of the stories of the men and women
of our armed services who are dying for the lies of this
administration. There are so many really important issues
and it seems the media continues to feed us stories about
cats getting lost in a suitcase, and of course this story,
which could be used to highlight the overuse of the
prescribing of prescription drugs and that is not being
done either. It seems that we are absorbed by sitcoms and
television and the characters that fill them...more than
real life. In one interview, Heath did complain about the
stress of all the media attention...

I wish it were different...and I wish for Heath's child's
sake he had been able to have a support system which worked
for him such that he would still be alive.

blessings,
Zoe
