what the dream about?

martin luther king jrs dream wasnt about himself, it was about the children of this country he loved and gave his life for. here is a quote of his that has only five references on the entire internet(did someone say we were free?). 5! and you have to damn near have the entire sentence written out in quotations to find those with google. try it and see.

School takes 13 years, because that is how long it takes to break a child's spirit.

- Martin Luther King

its my favorite quote of his. it is so raw and so true that few have the guts to view it, let alone contemplate it.

i could go on and on about how little is really understood about king. hell, he is not even misunderstood that much, but people are simply ignorant of him almost to a word. they are left to think whatever they want thus perpetuating his legend upon millions of individual myths that have nothing to do with reality, totally obscuring the man and his message. pretty slick trick if you ask me.

speaking of education, which isnt happening today because school is out, here are some other quotes for your enlightenment.

State education is a mere contrivance for molding people to be exactly alike one another; ... in proportion as it is efficient and successful, it establishes a despotism over the mind, leading by a natural tendency to one over the body.

- John Stuart Mill (1859)

Maybe we should declare educational bankruptcy, give the people their money and let them educate themselves and start their own schools.

- Former Secretary of Education Lauro Cavazos

The basic tool for manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you control the meaning of a word, you control the persons who have to use it.

The first goal and primary function of the U.S. public school is not to educate good people, but good citizens. It is the function which we call in enemy nations 'state indoctrination.'

- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) American essayist, poet, philosopher

What is the task of higher education? To make a man into a machine. What are the means employed? He is taught how to suffer being bored.

When education is not public we no longer have the ability to control what is taught and what is not taught.
- Lee Berg, NEA, (CTA Equity and Human Rights Conference, 1998)

- Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles, "Communist Manifesto," 1848

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

- Paul Simon, "Kodachrome"

Whenever is found what is called a paternal government, there is found state education. It has been discovered that the best way to insure implicit obedience is to commence tyranny in the nursery.

- Benjamin Disraeli (1874)(trapper - boy thats a guy who would know!)

You contend that I am wrong to teach my son science and philosophy; I believe you are wrong to teach yours Greek and Latin. Let us both follow the dictate of our conscience. Let us allow the law of responsibility to operate for our families. It will punish the one who is wrong. Let us not call in human law; it could well punish the one who is not wrong.
