Re: iodine and mental disorders???

My ex-MIL had severe thyroid issues. She was also admitted into a mental institution in the 60's and diagnosed way beyond bipolar. I remember reading about a libotomy (sp) that was performed on her in those early years. It was told in her local paper that she had a child that weighed over 20 pounds and that she nearly bled to death. I honestly believed my ex was bloated when he was born. He was later diagnosed with Grave disease and thyroid storm. I do believe he had a horrible case of bipolar issues and he also developed breast tumors at age 15. I do know that once they gave my mother-in-law the thyroid meds instead of the Lithium she actually quit writing about her paranoid characters. I wish I had known more about Iodine then.
