He knew that jury and the whole America wanted to punish him, so ... if he acted like he wanted death, like he wanted to become legend ... he knew jury would not satisfy his wish ... instead he gets life in prison ...

But, life in prison is what he really wanted ... but didn't say knowing that jury would not want to go by his own wish.
