Hopefully yours will realize that there's newer information.. You might visit this site

and print the page so s/he can see the dosage for suppression.

Here's a link to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, done by the well respected Anna Wald of the University of Washington that used 400 mg BID (Twice a day)

which says: "The standard dosage of acyclovir in nonpregnant adults is 400 mg 3 times daily for 10 days for primary episodes, 400 mg 3 times daily for 5 days for acute treatment of recurrent episodes, and 400 mg twice daily for suppression of recurrent episodes."
